Each year the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School’s Guidance & Counselling Department organises the Virtuous Lady Seminar for all female students of Year Four. The event is sister to the A-MEN Seminar held each January for all Year Four males. This year, the Virtuous Lady Seminar was held on 11th March 2015 at the Mount Fortune Seventh-day Adventist Church – the only known facility on island that could accommodate the large-scale event.
The aim of the Virtuous Lady Seminar is to provide a forum for guiding and motivating girls to take positive action towards their own growth. Facilitators, through their interactive sessions, provided students with valuable information and inspiration, equipping them with vital skills and tools to create awareness, take responsibility for their life, and make healthy choices.
The Seminar’s facilitators and sessions were as follows: Mrs. Shellecia Brooks-Johnson – Effective Communication; Mrs. Carrol Shannon – Healthy Relationships With Boys; Nurse Dana Ruan – Sex and Me; Mrs. Serene Carter-Davis – What It Means To Be A Virtuous Lady; Mrs. Jennifer Gumbs & Ms. Rochelle Rogers – Fostering Healthy Relationships; and Ms. Shannette Brooks and Ms. Natasha Richardson – Resolving Conflict.
The afternoon sessions focused on various aspects of personal, social, emotional, and spiritual development and were facilitated by: Min. Eagle Celia Jones-Connor; Ms. Shellya Rogers; Ms. Natalie Richardson; and Ms. Emma Ferguson.
Principal, Mrs. Ingrid Lake, Guidance Counsellors, and Year Four female students of the ALHCS would like to express a hearty THANK YOU to all the sponsors and facilitators who made the Virtuous Lady Seminar a huge success.
Sincere gratitude and appreciation is extended to Pastor Trent Berg, leaders and congregation of the Mount Fortune Seventh-day Adventist Church for their commitment and tremendous support of the Virtuous Lady Seminar yet another year; thank you for accommodating the event and providing much needed assistance throughout the day. A special thank you is also extended to the various restaurants, hotels, churches, and individuals who sponsored refreshments and lunch. Each year your generous contributions help to offset the cost associated with producing such a large-scale event.
The Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School looks forward to continued partnerships as we work together to instill positive development and change in our young people while fulfilling the schools motto -‘Decus Est Servire’ – It is an honour to serve.
