On February 21, 2015, the Optimist Club of Anguilla celebrated 20 years of service to our youth, and the youth arm of the organization – Junior Optimist Octagon International (JOOI) – celebrated their 10-year anniversary. A milestone event was planned for this occasion.
Founding and new Optimist and JOOI members, teachers, parents and supporters turned out in large numbers for the Optimist Anniversary Ball and Awards held at da’Vida Restaurant. A three-course meal was served to all attendees.
The guest speaker for the evening was Past Governor Optimist Oscar Derby who delivered an inspiring address about the possibilities and future of technology, and encouraged all Anguillians to think beyond existing boundaries – about how we can contribute to the positive advancement of technology that will change the world.
Recognition and awards were given to Optimist and JOOI members, and to members of the community for their commitment to youth and service over the years. Among many others Past , Lt. Governor of the Caribbean District, Optimist Emma Ferguson, was recognized for her commitment to the JOOI clubs.
The motto of the Optimist Club of Anguilla is ‘Bringing out the Best in Kids.’ The Club would like to say thank you to parents, teachers, those in the private and public sector, and all others in the community who helped to build and support the Optimist Movement and all its projects over the last 20 years.
The Optimist Club of Anguilla looks forward to continuing to support our six JOOI Clubs and carrying forth our mandate of ‘bringing out the best in children.’
