Sunday 15th March saw a bevy of beauties – students from the St James School of Medicine (SJSM) – parading on the catwalk erected at Elvis Beach Bar at Sandy Ground. More than fifteen participated in the fashion show to raise funds for their ‘White Coat Ceremony’ due to take place in April. According to the coordinator, Miss Amira, the Ceremony is a student-organized event and while the school contributes to it, the students must meet some of the costs thus making it necessary for them to undertake fundraising activities.
In attempting to pull off the event, Miss Amira and her team experienced firsthand the warmth and generosity of the Anguillian people (both corporate and individual). A number of businesses across the island came to their assistance.
Helping to prepare the models with the necessary clothes and beautification services were Van Beauty Boutique, Ken’s Boutique, Belle Mode Fashion and Nails- R-Hair Salon, all located at the Mason Complex.
One of the major challenges was preparing Elvis’ Beach Bar for the show. Assistance was provided by the Garden Centre, ABC Supplies, Couture Concepts, Black Orchid, Dolce Vita, Elkin Lloyd, Riloth Will, and Elvis.
The musical expertise of D J Legend, Sproka and Kira was kindly volunteered and greatly welcomed. Advertising was donated by 97.7 Up Beat Radio, LIME and Max Printing. The venue was provided with the compliments of the management of Elvis Beach Bar.
Miss Amira commented, “The generosity of the people in Anguilla went for beyond what I was expecting… I cannot express enough gratitude and blessing to those who have helped me to pull off this event. If anyone would still like to donate to our White Coat Ceremony please call 264-729-5044 and ask for Amira.”
