Re ‘The Strip’:
Anguilla is trying to move forward and someday have a town. Calling an area a ‘town’ does not make it a town. I have previously said Anguilla is lucky not to have a small, smelly, overcrowded town like other West Indian islands. Now, we seem to want to imitate that type of disorganization by building such a ‘town’.
Locating the Strip (or whatever) in the middle of our ‘business district’ is a terrible idea. People do need an area like this and it does serve a good purpose – but not there! It started out as some sales stalls and insidiously grew bigger and bigger, louder and louder, and more and more of a nuisance to surrounding businesses and of course the Anglican Church. Perhaps that Body could have questioned the whole idea before it got out of hand, but I am positive they were not aware of what our government was planning, nor were they asked for any kind of input. Did this proposed plan go to the Planning Board, or some kind of Council? Who sanctioned the idea? Where is the sanitation? Where are the police? Answers. Answers. It may be a good idea to locate the People’s Market (strip) further north, west of the park. It would mostly be out of sight and still easily accessible. Then please take all these stalls – those across the road north of the tamarind tree, as well as those east of the round about – away from where they are now. Clean and clear up the whole area!
If the government revisits this strip and makes a more positive change by relocating it to a more acceptable site, please be sure to move the bright blue ‘port a potty’ as well. This ‘convenience’ is located in full view, a bit north of one of the most up to date streets in Anguilla – that is – past the only plaza we have, a thriving Bank, and one of the very few smart business buildings on Anguilla. It serves no purpose anyway – men still go into bush on the other side. I saw them! At night, they use other areas nearby for this purpose. Owners are desperately trying fence their properties. Come on, Anguilla governments, past and present, (and future) – surely we deserve better than this! As well, some respect for the Church would be a blessing!
Thank you.
