The Department of Youth and Culture wishes to congratulate Ms. Breanna Webster for participating and placing 3rd runner up in the International Interscholastic Idol Competition. The competition was held at the Belair Community Centre in St. Maarten on Saturday 7th March. The event was a vocal talent competition and included a number of participants from the Dutch and English Speaking Caribbean. The competition was won by 17 year old Gerson Herrera of St. Eustatius who received 2 trophies and a laptop computer.
Ms. Webster was accompanied by Ms. Shellya Rogers, Programme Officer responsible for Culture and Arts in the Department of Youth and Culture. Ms. Rogers noted, “the event in St. Maarten was an exceptional display of real talent and was both impressed with and proud of Breanna’s performance. The Department intends to organise an inter school competition at the primary level and an inter house competition at the secondary level to select winners to represent the island. Competitions like these are great avenues for young artists to gain exposure and experience.”
Ms. Webster received 2 trophies and a digital Camera for her participation in the show. The department wishes to sincerely thank Ms. Breanna Webster and her mother Ms. Rebecca Webster for taking time out of their schedules to prepare for this event.
Breanna’s participation was sponsored by the Ministry of Social Development (Department of Youth and Culture).
