Anguilla had a major presence at the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) 2015 Conference held in Orlando, Florida, from March 8 – 10, 2015. The Conference is the only domicile-neutral captive insurance conference in the world. CICA continues to leverage its domicile-neutral status to forge collaborative relationships and a stronger, more impactful, voice for the captive industry. This year’s conference was attended by over 400 delegates from the Caribbean, Europe and the United States.
This was the largest delegation of persons to attend any financial services conference or event from Anguilla. “Team Anguilla” was led by Anguilla Finance Limited (AFL) (Steve Garlick and Shernika Connor) and included five delegates from the private sector: (John Benjamin (Benjamin Group of Companies), Merline Barrett (Keithley Lake and Associates), Fiona Curtis (Counsel Limited), Philip Kisob (Henley Trust) and Carlyle Rogers (Stafford Group of Companies)) and two regulators from the Anguilla Financial Services Commission (Charonay Carty and Evorna Hodge). “Several professionals that visited the AFL’s stand were impressed by the number of delegates that attended the conference from Anguilla”, said Shernika Connor. “When compared to other domiciles, Anguilla really stood out in this regard.”
Merline Barrett stated:, “As a first-time attendee at the CICA International conference, I was very impressed, not only with the insightful and thought-provoking presentations, but with the way in which the organizers were able to cater to the needs of all the attendees regardless of how much they know about the captive industry. Additionally, the conference afforded us a glorious opportunity to showcase Anguilla as a reputable captive domicile and it is hoped that very soon Anguilla will become a household name in the captive arena.”
“The CICA Conference provided me/my firm with the opportunity to learn more about the captive insurance industry. I now have a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing this growing industry”, said Philip Kisob.
Bacho Vega of Artex Risk Solutions said, “CICA Conference was a fantastic opportunity to interact with other professionals in the industry. What a great opportunity to create professional connections while obtaining the latest knowledge all under one roof!”
AFL hosted a dinner on Sunday, March 8th, that had the largest attendance since this dinner was instituted about 4 years ago. There were 39 persons in attendance, up from 28 persons that attended the dinner last year. Attendees included insurance managers that are currently licenced in Anguilla as well as prospective licencees and other professionals that we would like to attract to our shores. Also in attendance were representatives from other captive domiciles that work closely with Anguilla.
Megan Brooks of Capstone Associated said, “Anguilla’s strong presence at CICA reflects their continuing dedication to providing services to the captive industry and remaining competitive in an ever evolving market. Further, the Anguilla Finance dinner on Sunday brought together multiple jurisdictions and service providers allowing an intimate setting to discuss the captive industry.”
A highlight of the conference was that Evorna Hodge, a member of “Team Anguilla”, received recognition during the Opening Ceremony of the CICA Conference for successfully completing the course of study offered by the International Center for Captive Insurance Education (ICCIE) and obtaining the Associate in Captive Insurance (ACI) Professional Designation. Evorna is one of three Anguillians that have been awarded this designation.
