riskreduction2On Friday 20th March, the Anguilla Red Cross received a cheque of US $500 from Alliance Insurance Company of George Hill. For a second time around the Red Cross won the prestigious annual Risk Reduction Award presented at a ceremony held at the Offices of the Insurance Company.
The award is a collaborative effort between the Department of Disaster Management and Alliance Insurance. Director of the company, Sandra Lowell, said: “This award is an initiative to recognize excellence by individuals, agencies, groups and institutions throughout the island that contributed in an outstanding manner to reduce disaster risk for a safer and more sustainable Anguilla.”
This is the fifth year the award has been offered, and the Anguilla Red Cross has won it for two consecutive years. Present at the ceremony were some past winners of the award and Deputy Governor, Mr Stanley Reid.
The public is encouraged to be more involved in the initiative, to be the eyes and ears of their communities and to do more to help with risk reduction. Any help and advice with regard to nomination of individuals or groups for the award can be had from the Department of Disaster Management.
