DSC_0327 DSC_0328 Each year, as part of the Anguilla Beautification Club Flower and Garden Show, the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School is asked to portray the theme in the form of visual arts. The theme this year
“A Tribute to Mother Nature” was well represented by the students in the form of paintings.

The students took up the challenge a few months before as they worked arduously on their pieces in readiness for the show. Paintings of flowers seemed to be the most popular area of study and production thus rewriting their own theme as “Flowers, A Tribute to Mother Nature.” A few students painted beautiful sunsets, lovely landscapes and also paintings of fruits and flowers.

The paintings were done by students of Campus B, Form One and Form Two. Each child was required to complete one painting for the display. The works of art were done on canvas using acrylic paint. Acrylic paints are most suited to students as it is quick drying and easy to work with.

The paintings were first viewed at the Catholic Conference Hall on the weekend of the February 28th Flower and Garden Show. Here, parents and other members of the public had an opportunity to feast their eyes on the bright and vibrant pictures of the positive works that our children so often produce at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School. Viewers were stunned at what can be achieved with a little guidance and patience. A second display was set up in the classroom for viewing by teachers and students.

Mrs. Louise Brooks, a Visual Arts teacher at Campus B, explained that it gives her great pleasure to be able to help each child produce a piece of artwork that he or she can be proud of and can have as a treasure. It is her hope and wish that many of these students continue to paint even after they leave the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School.
