Dear Editor:
With the election approaching, it has become apparent from listening to the various radio stations on the island where their political allegiances lie.
One good example of this transparent bias is the popular station based Rey Hill.
One of the Djs is allegedly turning his late afternoon chats into a party political broadcast for the present government. This would be fine if they changed the name of the station to the ‘AUM’ station – but it is not fine if they are purporting to be an independent broadcaster.
The problem with this is that when any radio station which broadcasts news, public information and commentary, and at the same time pushes their own agenda, it is difficult for that station to remain objective an impartial. This means that everything they broadcast can be perceived as skewed with a heavy bias attached, and hence questionable. This means that listeners are not receiving a true picture of events but a slightly skewed one-sided version. This is important because radio listeners can start to question the integrity of a station and question if they can truly believe anything that is reported.
