HMS Severn, an offshore patrol vessel, made a brief visit to Anguilla earlier this week. The ship is in the region to re-enforce their support of Anguilla and other UK Overseas Territories. Under the command of Steven Banfield, HMS Severn specialises in Disaster Relief reconnaissance, fishery protection and counter-narcotics activities.
During their stay, the naval officers were briefed on-board by the Royal Anguilla Police Force and the Director of Disaster Management. Dr. Baker, the ship doctor was given a tour organized by the Health Authority of the Princess Alexandria Hospital and the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens’ Home.
Fondly know in the Royal navy as “Lucky Severn”, the ship will return this winter for a longer stay which will include a broader range of activities and engagements with the RAPF, Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service, and the Departments of Disaster Management and Fisheries.
