Fellow Anguillians, I address you as Leader of the Anguilla United Movement. January 24, 2015 will be recorded as the most disturbing and troubling day in recent times, the likes of which is totally foreign to the nature of our politics in Anguilla. The threats made on the lives of our First Lady, the Chief Minister and family, are not to be taken lightly and must not be tolerated. This is beyond cheap political gimmicks and shenanigans. As an honourable people with integrity, and a sense of community, we must condemn this senseless act in the strongest terms. We must never allow threats or acts of violence or terror to invade our politics, thus destroying the fabric of our society.
I commend the Royal Anguilla Police Force for its swift action in apprehending a person of interest. I also commend the Leader of the Anguilla United Front for strongly condemning this act and I call on all candidates to be similarly appalled by what occurred that night. We are not at war with each other and we must ensure that the political rhetoric does not rile up our impassioned supporters to the point where they feel verbal or physical violence is sanctioned. I urge us as a people to rekindle the flames that unified us in the Revolution of 1967, and to let common sense and decency prevail. God Bless you and may God Bless Anguilla.
Thank you.
Ellis L. Webster
