The latest Memorandum of Understanding, signed in Anguilla, has taken on a new perspective. It is a MOU which launches a Jobs.ai website which comes into being on February 16.
Through the use of the social media, there will be opportunities for employees in the public and private sectors to list available jobs; and for persons seeking employment to be able to submit pertinent information which could assist in their recruitment.
The undertaking is a joint initiative by the Government Department of Youth and Culture and the Ministry, along wih Live Communications. The Governor’s Office has provided a grant of US$5000 to assist in the initial funding of the initiative, and it is understood that the Anguilla Government has also made a contribution.
The MOU was signed by Governor Christina Scott on behalf of the Foreign Office; Mr Jerome Roberts, Minister of Youth & Culture, on behalf of the Anguilla Government; and Ms Tahirah Banks, Principal of Live Communications. The signing of the documents was witnessed by Mrs Chanelle Petty Barrett.
In speaking about the initiative, Mr Romney, Director of Youth and Culture, said it was created as a result of a conversation he had with Mrs Petty Barrett, and later from a proposal from Ms Banks of Live Communications.
“What Jobs.ai does, is that it centralises a process whereby everyone can list [employment opportunities] in one location,” Mr Romney explained in part. “Job seekers can then go there and search for available jobs and match them with their qualifications; look at salary requirements and so forth. In addition, employers can use the site to look at the profiles of potential employees and get a feel of who is in the market and to contact them directly. So it is not a situation where just job seekers can contact employers, but employers, themselves, can be proactive, knowing the vacancies in their businesses.”
Ms Banks provided a further insight into the operations of the joint project. She said in part: “What we created with Jobs .ai, which will be launched on February 16, is a website and a social platform which will ultimately branch into a mobile app because that’s one of the things my company develops. Our platform enables users to create profiles; upload resumes; interact with other users; contact potential employers; and identify meaningful ways to live out their dreams. From employees’ and employers’ perspective, businesses can post jobs; and what we wanted to do was to simplify the process for finding the right employee….”
Ms Banks also said that the aim of the website included the listing of scholarships, work permits, and other important information from the Labour Department, Department of Public Information, the Chamber of Commerce and the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association, among other agencies. There are various other services that will be available on the website.
Both Governor Scott and Minister Jerome Roberts praised the Jobs.ai website initiative as a brilliant and useful undertaking.
