The Ministry of Finance is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Travis Carty as Comptroller of Customs with effect from Tuesday January 13th, 2015. Mr. Carty succeeds Mr. Kenrick Richardson who has now retired.
In his new role, Mr. Carty will have oversight of the Customs Department which is responsible for the collection of Government revenue, and Protection of Society.
The young Anguillian is a 2008 graduate of Florida Memorial University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management of Information Systems. In 2014 he attained an AMP (Achieving Management Potential) Certificate in Leadership and Management training in a Joint session from Cranfield University School of Management and HMRC (Her Majesty Revenue and Customs).
Mr. Carty has worked in the Customs Department since 1998 in various roles including Assistant Customs Officer, Customs Officer and since 2008, Deputy Comptroller. A special area of training included an ASYCUDA (Automated Systems for Customs Data) Administrators Course that helped to develop his skills to assist in the management of the Automated System for Customs Data. In 2010 he was appointed as the department’s ASYCUDA World Project Manager.
Mr. Carty is most Grateful to God the Almighty, who has continued to give him the strength, courage and guidance throughout his years as a public servant as well as his family, friends and colleagues, the Ministry of Finance/ The Government of Anguilla for their continued support.
The new Comptroller believes in striving for a culture of professionalism and rendering the best service to customers while facilitating legitimate trade. He notes that in fullfilling the Mission of the Customs Department to Maximize the Collection of Revenue and Protection of Society, he continues to hold steadfast that “No man is an island” it is through team work that will make the dream work. Mr. Carty has pledged to engage all stakeholders in a co-ordinated effort to promote compliance. “Any cooperative approach to any task or mission will always be a success”, he added.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Dr. Aidan Harrigan, speaking on behalf of the Chief Minister and staff in the Ministry, has congratulated Mr. Carty on moving to this new stage of his public service career and wishes him well in the months and years ahead.
