Election Fever
Dear Sir:
The Anguilla 2015 general election is quickly approaching, but far from its end. Bittersweet feelings are building not only within me but within many citizens and residents of Anguilla. It is alright to feel utterly frustrated with the current administration but, the negative thoughts aside, our energy needs to be placed on moving our beloved island forward. Out of all the Caribbean islands, I strongly believe that Anguilla is the island with the greatest potential for development. Sadly, we are oftentimes bypassed and overlooked. I am writing this letter not to gain any fame or respect, but I write because I am an Anguillian. I loved Anguilla then, and I love it still even though I reside abroad. We as a people will never find progress and success if we continue to keep judging and hating our island, ignoring our history and disrespecting our leaders – breathe our fresh air and escape into the tranquility we boast about, and rise. Give hope and change a chance and see our difficulties with renewed eyes. We often long and cry for peace but it starts in the homes – in the hearts. It is crucial for us to remain hopeful and positive because we all have the right to create and have a bright and promising future. Time is too much of the essence to encounter a defeatist attitude. Help those that once helped you, demand fairness respectfully and seek justice, even when it hurts to do it. Above all, it is sure to make Anguilla realize its true potential.
