The Valley, Anguilla, January 16, 2015 – CIBC FirstCaribbean Anguilla has donated over EC$3000.00 to the Anguilla Cancer Society.
The monies were raised last October when staff at the CIBC FirstCaribbean Anguilla “Walk(ed) for the Cure” – an initiative that took place in the 17 countries in the region where CIBC FirstCaribbean has a presence.
Of the total raised some EC$877.50 was donated by a regional sponsor Deloitte.
The cheque was handed over to the Anguilla Cancer Society last week in a short ceremony in the office of CIBC FirstCaribbean Country Manager Miss Marie Rey.
“We are quite pleased to be handing over this sum of money to the Anguilla Cancer Society from our fund raising efforts last year including the walk,” the CIBC FirstCaribbean Country Head Anguilla Mss Rey said.
I am thankful to those persons who gave their support to the “Walk for the Cure” including patrons of the bank who walked with us and those who supported the other fund raising initiatives,” she continued.
The cheque was accepted by Treasurer of the Anguilla Cancer Society Mr Clifton James.
“On behalf of the Anguilla Cancer Society I would like to thank CIBC FirstCaribbean for their donation. We appreciate working with them and we look forward to working with them again this year in the interests of our fight against cancer,” he said.
“The monies will go along with other funds that we have received to go in our general fund for breast cancer awareness and the fight against breast cancer,” he said. “We raise funds every year to assist persons who are not financially able and experiencing difficulty with health care”.
A number of corporate entities have already pledged their support for the 2015 “Walk for the Cure” in Anguilla.
CIBC FirstCaribbean’s businesses around the Caribbean took part in the event along with its parent company, CIBC, which was in its 18th year of supporting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s Run for the Cure.
Since 1992, CIBC employees and volunteers have raised several million dollars for breast cancer research.
The Caribbean event raises funds for the care and support of persons fighting the disease across the Caribbean.
