DSC_8573 DSC_8561The so-called Latin Fest is an event now in its second year at the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School.
The aim of Latin Fest “is to expose students in the English community in Anguilla to the Latin culture – Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese – of other students and vice versa.” This is according to Spanish/French Teacher in the school’s Modern Language Department, Mrs Yeikis Trejos.
The event was first held in April last year when there were performers of Italian and Portuguese culture; but this second time, in December this year, there was only an Italian booth instead.

“The Latin Fest is to help students to become interested in other things than academic work,” Mrs Trejos commented. “Sometimes they have to get exposed to the food, dance and music so that they can learn a bit of the culture and the languages of students attending the school.”

She said that the activities included poetry reading, singing, and dancing, as well as presentations of national foods representing the culinary culture of the various countries of the students.
Mrs Trejos was assisted with the Latin Fest by Teachers Colin Johnson and Randy Bishop.
