To the Editor
In perusing The Anguillian newspaper of last week, I was astounded to see the amount of publicity being sought by the Dove Party, and in particular its leader who claims to have been solely responsible for the fall in the fuel prices in Anguilla as the result of a letter. What a shame that someone who should know better would fool the people that changes of this sort would happen like that. I am also disappointed that some of our journalists did not seek information from the fuel companies in relation to the fall in the fuel charges.
The relevant ministry was already notified of the planned reduction in fuel charges for the bulk supply of fuel which was to be delivered to Anguilla on November 18, 2014. This notification was given prior to Mr. Hodge’s letter dated November 17, 2014. This is further borne out by the fact that ANGLEC had already indicated a planned reduction in the price of electricity. (This had to be based on the planned reduction in fuel charges which was conveyed by the suppliers to the electricity provider). These businesses cannot and do not operate like a “mom and pop shop”.
We are all glad that the prices have been reduced but we know it is not as simple as the DOVE Party would have us believe. Is this the same person who allegedly failed to fight for and champion the reduction in telephone charges, for the people of Anguilla during the time he boasts about as Manager of Cable and Wireless? Did Rev. Niles fight for a reduction in the electricity charges for the people of Anguilla when he was on the Board at ANGLEC? Who are they really fooling? It would seem as if they were both watching the bottom line.
Thanks to SOL and Delta who continue to play very important roles in our community.
Thank you
