As the Christmas and New Year holidays approach most of us tend to reflect on the birth of our lord and savior Jesus Christ, the significance of his birth, on the current year and on what the new year will bring. It is also a time to celebrate with our friends and family while at the same time giving God thanks for his many blessings.
As a political party, we would like to encourage you to spend some extra time thinking about how your life has been over the past 15 years and how a positive change in the leadership of Anguilla could really improve things for everyone living here. Over the years, we have seen a significant increase in the overall cost of living. We have witnessed dramatic increases in taxes and very large increase in our budgets year on year while little or no improvements in our standard of living or quality of life. If you are like most people in Anguilla you are tired of the politics as usual and you want to see real and meaningful improvements in Anguilla to the benefit of everyone who has chosen to make Anguilla their home.
There are specific areas where we all want to see major changes in the new year. First and foremost our people need good paying jobs with benefits; not just to be employed full-time during the Christmas and New Year period. We all need affordable health insurance and good healthcare for our families. We all need a consistent reliable supply of potable water; not occasional running water. We all need to be able to live in a safe society. We all need more affordable electricity and much lower petrol prices at the pump. We all need to have food prices at the stores lowered as electricity prices come down. In short, we want a better quality of life for everyone living in Anguilla.
While there are many other improvements that we would all like to see, the aforementioned changes alone would positively impact the lives of everyone on this island. This is not the time to detail how to deliver these and make other improvements, however, our proposed plans have been shared with you over the past several months and will be further discussed in intimate settings commencing next year.
The DOVE Party is keen to see the people of Anguilla living under better conditions. We seem to have lost our way as a nation. As a very concerned team, the DOVE Party extends its wings of peace and love to everyone living in Anguilla and to every Anguillian living overseas. We appeal to everyone to consider a fresh new start for the new year. To candidates poised to contest the next general election we appeal to you to join with us and focus on delivering a much improved way of life for our people even if it means denying self. We should all as politicians and aspiring politicians try to do for the residents of Anguilla what Jesus would do for them if he was walking the streets of Anguilla today. Further, we should aim to be Christ-like in our deeds and thoughts as aspiring leaders of Anguilla.
The DOVE Party members believe that one of the greatest callings of a person is to serve their fellowman with honesty, openness, transparency and with a high degree of integrity. To this end, every member of the DOVE party has so committed.
So as we celebrate this season, we of the DOVE Party wish everyone a safe, happy, peaceful and Christ-centred holiday. May God continue to look over us and protect us. We look forward to your overwhelming support in the new year. May God bless Anguilla. May God bless ALL of us.
