To God be the glory
Great things He hath done
Sunday 30th November 2014 saw a wonderful and memorable exhibition of community spirit: of togetherness, sharing and caring. It was the 50th birthday celebration of the well-loved, well-known and popular Andrew Gumbs: the brother of Kenneth Richardson, Harris Richardson, Pastor John Gumbs, Quincy Gumbs, Belto Gumbs, Jerome Gumbs, Leslie Gumbs, Verna Bryan and Linda Gumbs; and a friend of the entire community of East End.
The day commenced with a church service at the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in George Hill where family, friends and other well wishers, gathered to thank God for his goodness to Andrew. At the service, the outpouring of love for him was genuine and tremendous.
The day ended at Royale Caribbean Resort where there were further expressions of love and caring for Andrew. There was also much merriment with plenty to eat: a whole roast pig, plenty of chicken, fish, stewed meats of all kinds, pies of all kinds, salads of all kinds – you just name it – all at Andrew’s birthday party. And there was plenty to drink too: a gift from the community-spirited people among whom Andrew lived, and with whom he interacted, on a daily basis – because Andrew himself was everywhere helping people. Surely, he was always willing and ready to give others a helping hand.
Kudos are in order for all of Andrew’s siblings who virtually worshipped him, over the years – protected and took care of him – and spared no effort in ensuring that he enjoyed his life, including his landmark fiftieth birthday, to the fullest. Andrew certainly enjoyed his birthday limousine ride as was evident by the unstoppable smile on his face. Kudos are also in order for all those persons in the community who contributed to making Andrew’s birthday a most memorable – an unforgettable – one.
Andrew, you have reached a half century. Congratulations! Keep on batting. Our wish is that with God’s blessings and protection your innings will be a long one.
