“This week was a resounding success in that it showed the role and importance that town planning plays in our island communities,” according to a statement from the Department of Physical Planning. “It highlighted that the manner in which communities are managed and organised, greatly affect and impact each one of us on a daily basis.”

The statement continued: “World Town Planning Day is celebrated in thirty countries on four continents each in the month of November. It is a special day to recognise and promote the role of planning in creating liveable communities.
For the first time the Department of Physical Planning in Anguilla decided to celebrate this special day over the course of the entire week of November 3rd -7th, 2014 by having a series of events.
“The week began with officers in the Department discussing the topic of Physical Planning on Anguilla on the In-Touch Radio programme hosted by Radio Anguilla on Tuesday, 4th November.

“On Thursday, 6th November, a Planning Day seminar was held, the theme being Encouraging Physically & Socially Cohesive Communities. During the course of the seminar, a number of presentations were given by the Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Jerome Roberts, officers within the Department as well as two special guest speakers: Mr Conrad Rogers, a local Architect, and Mr Cecil Niles, a local Surveyor and Planner. To conclude the week, on Friday, 7th November, the department held an open house where the Draft Anguilla Development Manual was launched.”

The address by Mr Conrad Rogers was submitted to The Anguillian by him and the Department of Physical Planning for publication. It is printed elsewhere in this edition of the newspaper.
