HIMA HEALTH, a leading American Medical Provider of Affordable Health Care, in Puerto Rico, has held its first symposium in Anguilla in collaboration with the Health Authority of Anguilla.
The event, at the Teachers’ Resource Centre, was held on Friday, October 24, and was followed the next day by a health fair on the grounds of the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium. The opening ceremony for the symposium was chaired by Mrs Colvette Whyte-Coley, Acting Director of Nursing Services.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Health Authority, Mr Raphael Evans, delivered the welcome and opening remarks. “HIMA Health is a leading American Medical Provider of Affordable Healthcare with advanced facilities and US certified physicians located in Puerto Rico. We are indeed privileged to have them on board with us,” he stated.
He commended Mrs Josephine Vidal Barietta, Manager of HIMA Health, for bringing the team of facilitators to Anguilla to conduct the symposium and for providing the materials and prizes at no cost to the Health Authority. “I must also acknowledge our Human Resources Unit which arranged this undertaking supported by the Health and Promotion Unit; Mrs Florence Harrigan; the Director of Nursing Services and the Director of Medical Services, who also assisted,” Mr Evans stated.
He went on: “I am sure that we all would agree that a healthy population is one of the greatest assets that any country can have. Equally important is having adequately-trained and knowledgeable people to ensure that this is achieved. I know that the benefits to be derived from these two days of events will indeed be appreciated by all here, and the people of Anguilla in general. My hope is that we can continue the partnership that we have established, and that events of this nature can be a regular occurrence while further expanding on the areas of collaboration.
“We will be discussing four key topics which will be presented by very knowledgeable and experienced medical practitioners. These topics were selected following dialogue with HIMA HEALTH and the Health Authority because of the impact that could be had from improvements in these areas: Paediatric Emergencies (Fernadoi Vega, MD): Chronic Diseases (Jose Ramirez, MD); Adult Emergencies (Angel Davila, MD); and Burns and Emergency Care (Amin Jaskille, MD).”
Mr Evans acknowledged some of the contributors to both the symposium and health fair events. They were the Medical Air Services Association (MASA), NAGICO Insurances and Highway-Rent-A-Car.
