Mr Evans McNiel Rogers, The Valley North candidate for the Anguilla United Front, says that his party will solve the ownership dispute which is plaguing the flagship resort of the island’s tourism industry.
Speaking at West End on Thursday night, October 2, Mr Rogers made the following statement:
“Ladies and gentlemen, we cannot talk about tourism, the hospitality industry in Anguilla, unless we talk about Cap Juluca. No one can question the significance and importance of Cap Juluca to the overall development of this country. Cap Juluca’s problems didn’t begin four years ago. They were around for a long time, while Cap Juluca was the recipient of numerous national, regional and international awards.
“In July 2009, after years of serious, constructive, painstaking discussions and negotiations, a workable MOA was agreed to and signed. If the [present AUM] Government had adopted that MOA, and not waste valuable time changing MOA to MOU, Cap Juluca would have been sorted out back then.
“We will bring all parties involved to the discussion/negotiating table, with a bias to none of the parties, and sort Cap Juluca out. The AUM Government cannot and will not be able to deal with the Cap Juluca issue. That is because they have already shown their hand with a bias towards one of the parties – and have lost any credibility they had to resolve Cap Juluca’s problems.
“Your next AUF Government will have those closed villas reopened and in the rental pool. This will get some of our people back to work down there, while the litigation continues.”
