Coleen “COCO” Johnson is now a student of the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill Barbados pursuing the dream of her life to become a Cardiologist while playing football.
She is the recipient of the University Sports Scholarship and is now a member of the University football team. While speaking to CFU Beacon in July Coleen said “I feel very proud to be an ambassador for my country because I enjoy playing football and representing my country has always been one of my dreams. It has been very challenging to maintain the balance between the time dedicated to train and the time dedicated to do my studies to ensure that I maintain a high standard of football as well as good grades.”
“My advice to other young girls who want to excel in the game is to work hard, play hard and make the skies their limit. Play every game as if there are scouts in the stand, and when you finally get to the top, work even harder because it’s hard to get to the top but its’ much harder to remain there .”
Coleen played for her club Super Stars FC and Captain the U-20 National football Team and excelled in her CXC subjects gaining 7 ones 4 twos and 1 three.
President of the Anguilla Football Association Mr. Raymond Guishard describe Coleen’s personality by saying, “Coleen has a quiet disposition but is quite aware of what is going on around her both on the field and in her community. She is alert but remains humble despite the skills and abilities that she possesses. When you engage coleen in any conversation she is as mature and as in-depth in her thinking.
Coleen would like to take this opportunity to thank the principal of the A.L.H.C.S and all of her dedicated teachers for their hard work and dedication in helping to shape her life. She would like to also thank all her football coaches, her teammates, her supporters and all her families and friends for their encouragement throughout the years. Special thanks to Mr. Raymond Guishard and the Anguilla Football Association for giving her the recognition and the opportunity to play football. A great big thank you to everyone who in anyway helped to make her dream a reality.
