Grades 3 and 4 students of Omololu International School are currently exploring one of the six trans-disciplinary themes of the International Baccalaureate program ‘How We Express Ourselves’. Students went beyond the walls of the classroom to discover the relationship between language and media; how we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values through the media in various genres. This inquiry led the classes to do a site visit to The Anguillian Newspaper for a firsthand experience of language in print media. Thanks to Mr. Nathaniel Hodge and staff, students were able to engage in and develop a better understanding of the process by which a single thought develops into a written creation for the deepening of awareness and knowledge.
This field trip exploration continued along another dimension as Mr. Bevon Brooks and staff welcomed the enthusiastic children to Kool FM Radio.
Students buzzed with excitement – brimming with questions, suggestions and more questions. Students were able to engage in the nuances of areas such as live- voice articulation of perspectives, individualism and cultural displays of language as an art form. At the Omololu International School, the world is the classroom where knowledge is sourced in an experiential, relevant and meaningful way.
Omololu International School firmly believes that every child is unique and full of potential and through its holistic program of academics, the arts, music, languages and sports; OIS aims to guide each child to achieve his or her personal best and grow into an open-minded, supportive, well-grounded global citizen.
