Thursday 4th September 2014 was an exciting day at the Morris Vanterpool Primary School (“MVPS”) as on that day, representatives of the H.O.P.E. Centre Ltd and the H.O.P.E. Group (the fundraising arm of the H.O.P.E. Centre Ltd.) presented a basketful of school materials including composition notebooks, pencils, pens and glue required at the primary school level. The donation was made by the Centre Manager, Ms. Josette Duncan and Mrs. Cora Richardson Hodge and presented to the Principal of MVPS, Mr. Michael Skellekie, primarily in order to assist those students that do not have school supplies at the beginning of the school term.
This is the second year that H.O.P.E. has provided such a donation to the MVPS and as Mrs. Richardson Hodge stated, as long as H.O.P.E. is able to and there is a need, the donation will be made annually. Mrs. Richardson Hodge said the “Off to School with H.O.P.E.” project serves two purposes, “We are impressing upon the children that that learning their lessons in school gives them hope for a brighter future. Secondly, we are re-echoing and reminding the wider community, that H.O.P.E. Centre’s mission is really that of Helping Our People to Excel.
During the summer break, members of H.O.P.E. were also actively involved in giving the school a face lift, along with some members of the Parents/Teachers Association, and other community volunteers.
