Once again this year’s Drug & Alcohol Awareness Poster Competition at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School was very difficult to judge, with several entries vying for 1st prize. The entries showed that the students had a good understanding of the subject matter and expressed their ideas in a highly creative way.

The main theme of this year’s competition focused on how drugs of abuse such as alcohol or marijuana can affect the teenage brain, especially the hippocampus.
The winning poster, designed by Tiandra Gumbs, used powerful imagery to show how marijuana can negatively impact the young brain. The judging panel was impressed with the creativity and artistry of Tiandra’s entry, well done.
First runner-up prizes went to Travace Alonzo with his entry entitled ‘Be Smart, Don’t Start’ and Second runners up prizes went to Shemiah Jones, Janique Fleming and Shemara Roberts.
Prints have been made of the winning poster which will be displayed around the school.
Thanks goes to everyone who entered the competition and thanks and appreciation go to the following for supporting the competition – LIME, L & J Business Machines, Wings and Things, Papa Lash, J & S Snokonette and the Department of Education.
