Anguilla is hosting the Eleventh Regional Law Conference of the OECS Bar Association for three days, beginning this Friday, September 12. The venue is the Clubhouse at CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa.
The opening ceremony, from 8.30 – 9.15 am, will include addresses by Chief Minister, the Hon Hubert Hughes; Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, the Hon Madame Justice Janice Pereira; the President of the OECS Bar Association, Mr Ruggles Ferguson; and the President of the Anguilla Bar Association, Ms Yvette Wallace. Mr John Benjamin QC, one of its Founding Members, will declare the conference open, and Ms Jean Dyer, the Law Conference Coordinator, will chair the proceedings.
The Regional Law Conference is designed to bring together members from various Bar Associations throughout the Eastern Caribbean and beyond. It provides an opportunity for continuing legal education for members of the legal profession, and enables attendees to hear from law professors, other legal luminaries and members of the judiciary about legal development in the jurisdiction and further afield. It also provides an opportunity to network with members of the legal profession and to create strategic alliances.
Alongside the conference will be the OECS Bar Association’s Biennial General Meeting and a Gala Dinner in celebration of its 25th Anniversary. The keynote speaker will be the Right Honourable Sir Dennis Byron, President of the Caribbean Court of Justice. A number of other social events will take place over the weekend.
The OECS Bar Association comprises the Bar Associations of all nine OECS member territories.
