The Anguilla Electricity Company (ANGLEC) has awarded nineteen employees for exemplary performance in a number of categories under its Spot Awards Recognition Programme.
The lunchtime event, on Friday, September 5, was held at Flavours Restaurant at La Vue Boutique Hotel, and chaired by the ANGLEC’s Manager of Human Resources, Ms Erimel Franklin. “The Spot Awards Programme is directed to ANGLEC’s employees who have exemplified certain qualities in the following categories – Helping Hands, Performance, Time Management, Spirit and Life Saver,” she explained.
Ms Franklin continued: “The purpose of our programme is to demonstrate our appreciation to each of you for performing and displaying the right attitude, and to encourage you to maintain a positive attitude and outstanding work. We are truly appreciative of your efforts. Congratulations to each of you who are receiving an award.”
ANGLEC’s Chairman, Mr Artnell Richardson, spoke to the employees on the topic “Ways to love yourself a little more” which he thought should inspire them in the delivery of their services and dealing with the challenges they encounter. “By telling yourself positive things, you are able to change your mind set. I call it re-programming yourself,” he advised them. “Tell yourself I am capable, I am able and I know that I can make a difference.” He added: “The work that you are doing may seem menial to some persons, but look at it as being a steppingstone to making a change in your life and the life of others for the better.”
Mr David Gumbs, ANGLEC’s Chief Executive Officer, told the awardees: “We are taking this opportunity to recognise those of you who have contributed in a way to the organisation that helps it to be successful. Essentially, you have done things above and beyond the normal expectation. We have therefore created a forum where we can communicate to you the value that you add day in, day out, and the appreciation that we have for you.”
Mr Gumbs went on: “If we do not take the time to recognise people, and to do it publicly, the good efforts are hidden; the behaviours and the contributions that we want to encourage are subdued; and the behaviours and negativity that we want to discourage will rise to the top. We therefore have to make it formal, consistent and public so that you can be acknowledged for all the great qualities and the great things that you do for the company.”
The awardees were as follows – Helping Hands Award: Keneisha Gumbs, Shem Liddie, Jason Gumbs, Kenrick Carty, Timothy Richardson, Kendon Proctor and Gregory Carty. Spirit Award: Beatrice Gumbs-Telemaque and Marvin Carty. Performance Award: Ojevoni Mussington, Emmanuel Monsanto, Barry Telemaque, Dianne Gumbs, Vere Hodge and Marva C Richardson. Life Saver Award: Shelon Brooks, Delroy Carty and Stephen Richardson. Time Manager Award: Alwyn Nichols.
