Unprecedented numbers of children participated in a day of fun and community camaraderie on Saturday August 30th 2014. Sunset Homes, a Property Development firm in Anguilla was proud to declare its twelfth anniversary of sponsorship and coordination of this annual event on its office grounds located in Stoney Ground for the families of the neighbouring villages. The event’s concept centred around a Fun Fair operated by Sunset Homes and partnering community and corporate organisations, where there were several booths filled with games, contests, lucky dips, hoola hooping, math games, spelling quizzes, juggling games, art and craft, face painting and food and beverages. The eagerly anticipated the Tug-o-War culminated the proceedings where old and young joined in to jostle and pull with all their might, for the grand prize of bragging rights. All refreshments, prizes and games were provided complimentary to the children.

This event comes out of an active cooperation within the community, reminiscent of traditional communal activities, where villagers come together to work on select projects. Members of the community in the area help prepare for this event. The event aims to encourage community spirit and to provide a stimulating, productive activity for the children where they can win educational prizes. Over 150 children and their families were present and all children attendance received school and sports supplies ranging from back packs, scientific calculators, geometry sets, exercise books, stationery, footballs, games and more.

Appreciation goes out to all the persons who gave so generously of their time and resources including: Games Director Alfred “Allie” Douglas, Chief Coordinators Charlene Roach, Joan Johnson, Alma Gumbs and Athnel Robertson and the Sunset Homes staff.

Special mention must be made of the very generous donation made by Joseph Williams and Kathareen Rogers who sent a wonderful array of special educational gifts and supplies for the children. These two persons are Anguillians living in the US who continue to contribute back to the children of this community through various programs and events.

Stellar support was received from supporting sponsors including Tequila Sunrise Villa, Alegria Villa, Beaches Edge Villas, Arijah Foundation, Anguilla Community College, Kidz Kare, Caribbean Commercial Bank, Tropical Treats, Anita and Canita Ruan, Anguilla Football Association, Best Buy Supermarket, Department of Youth and Culture, Watson Hodge/Caracasbaii, Lawrence “Big Time” Hodge, Haskin’s Limited, Albert Lake Supermarket, Merchant’s Market, ANGLEC, Cap Juluca, Ciao Café, Branches of Learning, ANGLEC, J.W Proctors, Mary’s Bakery, Pastor Dexter Welcome and the Dominion Faith Church, Ivor and Carmen Gumbs, Brother Lee and his Team at KOOL FM and The Anguillian Newspaper.
