On Saturday a Wellness workshop was facilitated by Coach Louis Price on the behest of the JC Recreational Centre. Participants ranged in age from 15 – 68 years, both male and female – a true cross-section of Anguillian society!
The emphasis was on the importance of regular consistent strength training and the overall benefits to the body which are:
• Enhanced integrity and movement of the joints (that are subject to wear and tear as we live longer)
• Enhanced metabolism of the body by increased muscle mass (on average every decade 5-7 lbs of muscle mass is lost)
• Increased bone density
• Muscle tone that helps with alignment and posture of the body as we live longer
• Faster recovery in case of injury
• Improved physical wellbeing which has a positive impact on emotional wellbeing
• Improved physical appearance
After a lecture on theory, the workshop participants went into the gym equipment area where they were shown practical applications of the lecture.
This workshop, the latest in a series of sessions held for youth and adults alike, was held on two separate Saturday mornings with the completion on the 26th July 2014. The JC Recreational Centre continues to do its part to enhance the overall wellness of the Anguillian people.
