There is a continuing spate of armed robberies which are causing much concern in Anguilla.
The latest occurred on Monday this week, August 11. It was reported to the Police that, in the early hours of that morning, three masked men entered the room of a hotel guest at West End and stole her cellular phones and jewellery valued over US$20,000. The victim reported that her assailants tied her hands and gagged her before making their escape.
The assailants were described as being of a dark complexion. One was said to have been about six feet three inches tall with and with a large figure. The other two assailants were of a slim figure and shorter.
On Wednesday, August 6, at about 8.30 pm, the Police responded to a report of a robbery at Limin Chinese Supermarket at Little Dix. A release issued by the Police stated that investigations revealed that a masked gunman entered the supermarket and shot the Security Guard. The guard fell and his assailant proceeded to disarm him.
A second assailant entered the supermarket with a shotgun and took up the cash register. The two assailants left on foot with the guard’s firearm and the cash register.
The Security Guard sustained a gunshot wound to his right side and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Prior to that incident, it was reported that a lone armed and masked gunman entered Megasavers Supermarket in The Farrington on the night of Saturday, August 2, and made off with a sum of money.
The Police are investigating all the incidents and are appealing to the public for information which would lead to the arrest and prosecution of the robbers.
Meanwhile, according to the regular weekly Police Report for August 6-13, there were a total of seven serious crimes – in Anguilla – including four thefts at Blowing Point, Shoal Bay, Statia Valley and The Quarter. The stolen items included a machete, tables, a cellular phone and money.
There were seven arrests during the period as follows: one male to prevent a breach of the peace; one male for actual bodily harm; one male for taking a conveyance; one male for grievous bodily harm; one male for theft; one male for possession of cannabis; and one male for possession of a firearm.
