Summer Fest Closing Ceromony 001Summer Fest 2104 began on Monday 11th August and ended on Friday 15 August at Bethel Methodist Church with a new Chairperson, Sis. Navine Fleming.
The opening ceremony started at 9:00 am with Rev. Dr. S. Wilfred Hodge, who gave a rousing address on “Following Jesus”, followed by Rev. E. Dunstan Richardson who gave the blessing and declared the Summer Fest open.
The group leaders Sis. Hyacinth Hughes – 5-8 year olds, Sis. Jenice Carty – 9-12, and Sis. Joselyn Richardson 13 years and over, did an excellent job in guiding the children through their activities for each day. Activities included “Know Your Church”, “Bible Study”, “Healthy Lifestyles”, “Say No to Gangs”, and for the first time” Positive Uses of Social Media” was introduced by Sis. Shelecia Brooks-Johnson.
Arts and Crafts, supervised by Tr. Leonie Richardson and Sis. Vera Richardson and others, was upgraded to laminated religious table (place) mats, tile set coasters, basket weaving and felt decorated pot holders, all with religious themes.
Our teams were sponsored by Rev. John A. Gumbs 5-8 year olds, Rev. Cecile Weeks and Rev. Franklyn Roberts 9-12 year olds, And Rev. Dr. S. Wilfred Hodge 13 years and over. Children belonging to these teams wore the appropriate colour religious wrist bands throughout the week.
Special thanks to all six churches in the Circuit. Bethel, Ebenezer, Zion, Immanuel, Maranatha and Trinity for providing tasty and nourishing snaks for all he children and facilitators who were present.
The closing ceremony took the form of a concert which show cased the highlights of all that the children were taught. Sis. Navine Fleming and Bro. Seymour Hodge were especially instrumental in obtaining gifts and prizes for the closing ceremony. Thanks to E’s Oven, Tasty’s Restaurant and Viceroy for their donations. Bro. Ken Banks was present each day and contributed tremendously to the smooth running of all activities, along with Bro. Seymour Hodge. Our Superintendent Minister, Rev. Dr. Wycherley Gumbs gave his blessings before he left for vacation. We also, would like to thank the parents and children for participating in Summer Fest this year.
