On Thursday April 24, 2014; twenty students competed in the knock out style Health Authority of Anguilla Sponsored, “Annual Healthy Lifestyles Interhouse Quiz Competition”. This Competition is a collaborative effort between the Nutrition and Health Promotion Department at the Health Authority of Anguilla (HAA) and the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, to improve health awareness among adolescence in our community.

The Quiz is conducted in three phases. The first focuses on improving health awareness by educating the students on various health related topics. This is done by educators in the form of health professionals who conduct classes and demonstrations during the PSHE sessions for 4th form students at Campus A over a two month period.
In Phase 2, students’ aptitudes for participation in the Quiz are evaluated, by conducting a Preliminary test. Students from all five (5) houses with the highest overall scores are then selected for participation.

Phase 3 of the Annual Inter house School Quiz 2014, the highlight of the program, was conducted at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium.
Pink House representative Ms Jasmin Ruan emerged victorious as the individual champion and was awarded a gift sponsored by Coral Reef Bookstore. This year our audience was given the opportunity to compete by answering some questions posed to them. Three winners were awarded some delicious pumpkin bread and school supplies sponsored by Mrs. Patsie Frederick Wattley.
At the end of round one Pink house cemented a spot in the finals. Yellow, Maroon and Orange house matched wits in a series of tie breakers for the opportunity to compete in the finals. Unfortunately Yellow house did not survive the sudden death round and was eliminated. Thus Pink, Maroon and Orange house went on to the finals. The closely contested finals proved to be the best for 2013 second place winners Pink House; who were declared 2014 Winners. All Pink house team members were awarded a gift voucher sponsored by the HAA, to be redeemed at Coral Reef Bookstore. Maroon House who ended with two points less than Pink were awarded second place. All Members received HAA sponsored lunch voucher from Larry’s Deli. Orange house retained their 2013 spot of third place; team members received Gift Baskets.
On behalf of the organizers we wish to thank the following individuals and organizations: ALCHS Staff members; Ms. Tashanta Brooks, Mrs. Anita Ruan, Mrs. Patsie Frederick Wattley, Mrs. S. Adams, Mrs. Ingrid Lake, Timekeepers and Students who participated in the Quiz.
HAA staff; Mrs. Lynette Carty, Mrs. Jennifer Gumbs and the Nutrition Health Promotion Department.
Moderator Ms. Farrah Banks Director of Radio Anguilla Broadcasting,
Proprietors of Coral Reef Bookstore, Ashley & Sons Supermarket and Larry’s Deli. As well as those not mentioned who made the event possible and memorable. We look forward to your future support.
