For the first time, since the early start of the campaign for the 2015 general election, Chief Minister and Leader of the Anguilla United Movement, Mr Hubert Hughes, has given an indication of his immediate political future. He made statements to that effect at the AUM’s public meeting at West End, on Saturday, May 24.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I am happy today because so many people are saying ‘Hubert, you can’t leave us yet’. You know why? They are satisfied with the performance of this Government,” he said. “I aint goin’ nowhere. I will win the next election for the Anguilla United Movement; and I will sit in office as Adviser to this brilliant young Government. I aint goin’ nowhere.”

The 80-old Chief Minister, the region’s longest-serving political leader, continued: “Nelson Mandella suffered for 27 years in jail. He came out and became the first black Prime Minister of that great nation, South Africa. He handed it over, and he still didn’t go anywhere. He stayed in South Africa until his death.

“I aint goin’ nowhere.”
