On Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th May, 2014 over 400 students from Years 3 and 2 respectively benefited from the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School’s Option Fairs. These events were held at the Rodney McArthur Rey Auditorium from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Annually, Year Two students of the ALHCS choose one practical option (subject) to study in Year Three, while Year Three students would select 6 subjects to pursue during their remaining 2 years at the ALHCS. These six options along with the mandatory subjects (Mathematics, English A, English B, Physical Education, and Personal Social Health Education) would comprise their programme of study. Subjects are usually chosen based on students’ career paths.
Some of the Subject areas represented at the fair included: Humanities (Social Studies, Geography, History and Religious Studies); Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agriculture Science, Integrated Science and Human and Social Biology), Business (Principles of Business, Accounts, Office Administration, Electronic Document Preparation Management, Economics and Business Studies), Home and Food Technology ( Clothing and Textiles, Food and Nutrition and Home Management),Technical Studies (Mechanical (Metal) Engineering, Automotive Studies, Cabinetry & Joinery, Construction Trade Technical Drawing, Wood Work, Electrical Practices), Hospitality (Hotel Management, Culinary Start and Culinary Essentials), Modern Languages(French and Spanish), Physical Education, Theatre Arts, Information Technology, Visual Arts and Music .
The fair was designed to assist students and parents with the subject selection process, while allowing them to gain information about the various subjects offered, School Based Assessments and Examinations. Feedback indicates that parents and students who attended are much more equipped for the subject selection process.
The Principal, Guidance & Counselling Unit, Heads of Years 2 and 3 and staff of the ALHCS would like to express their gratitude to parents, guardians and students who attended the fair.
