A young man, who has not been named, was arrested and charged in Anguilla in connection with possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The Police reported that on Sunday, April 6, the Royal Anguilla Police Drugs and Firearms Task Force conducted an operation in the Sandy Hill area. The search resulted in the discovery of a Gluck 22, 40 calibre firearm, eleven rounds of ammunition and an extended magazine capable of carrying two rounds of ammunition.
The Police press release, circulated to the media on Monday, April 7, stated that a young man was in custody assisting the Police with their investigation. On Wednesday he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court. He was granted bail on a bond of $40,000 and a cash payment of $25,000. He is due to return to court on May 14.
Monday’s press release advised that the Police were continuing to appeal to members of the public with information about firearms on the island to contact the Criminal Investigation Department, the Drugs and Firearm Task Force or any Police Officer of their choice.
According to the Police, this is the first firearm to have been taken off the street in Anguilla for 2014.
