As if to underscore the holding of Festival Del Mar this weekend, at the fishing village of Island Harbour, fishermen there have netted one of the largest catch of jack fish in recent times.
So large was the catch, in the area of Dog Island, late last week, that the Anguillian fishermen found themselves with a huge over supply for the local market. As a consequence, a truck load of the fish was delivered at the airport for a specially-arranged flight to consumers in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

It was not the first time, however, that jack fish was exported to that American territory where there are a large number of resident Anguillians, and St Thomas nationals, who look forward to occasional supplies of the fish.
While the export arrangements to St Thomas were being made, a boat load of the fish was moored alongside the Island Harbour Pier, where throngs of people gathered to purchase supplies. Excited over the mammoth catch, and tired from their fishing expedition, a few of the young fishermen relaxed on the pile of fish even while the sales were in progress. It was a slow selling process, given the large crowd of purchasers.
