With the 2014 Agricultural Exhibition just ended, Irenee Edwards, one of the few farmers at Sandy Ground, was pleasantly surprised when she harvested her backyard yam patch and unearthed a cache of large produce. The largest yams, grown in her sandy soil, weighed between 18 and 20 pounds.
This is currently the yam harvesting season for farmers in various parts of Anguilla and, according to reports, there has generally been a good yield of yams, one of the staple food crops on the island.
