FISHERIES CORNER SAFETY AT SEA TRAINING FOR FISHERMEN

As part of its outreach programme, the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources, in collaboration with the Anguilla Red Cross, conducted two safety at sea training session for fishermen at Crocus Bay on Tuesday, March 18, from 3-7pm.
The Red Cross was represented by Israel Benjamin, one of its new trainers. “The Red Cross has come to support the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources,” he said. “We are teaching the fishermen some basic first aid about how to protect themselves and to function in a safe way. We are teaching CPR; how to help somebody with a bleeding problem; how to deal with diabetic persons in emergencies; and other important forms of assistance.”

The Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources was represented by its Outreach Officer, Kenroy Rawlins, who conducted the training session which dealt with the use of flares during emergencies at sea.
