Dear Sir,
EXAMINE THE HORNS
Recently a tape was played by a certain radio station, apparently attempting to show up Victor Banks as a bad Finance Minister. The voice on the recording was that of a former Chief Minister who, at the time, was complaining to the listening public – in a campaign speech – that the then Finance Minister, Mr Victor Banks, had borrowed and borrowed, and that the British Government had refused to authorise anymore borrowing for his government which was obviously the Anguilla National Alliance (ANA).
You can fool all the people sometimes, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. So now let us take a closer look and examine the horns.
If, and when Mr Osbourne Fleming was painting this picture of Mr Banks, the Finance Minister, then Mr Osbourne Fleming could not have been Chief Minister of the Anguilla United Front – he had to be in the opposition, and Mr. Banks had to be the Finance Minister in the Hughes Government. Therefore, Mr Hubert Hughes had to be Chief Minister and privy to and in compliance with all that borrowing. Then why blame Mr. Banks?
We should thank you for airing that recording. Now we know who really got Anguilla into debt. You need to examine the horns for yourselves. I think that this recording puts the Anguilla United Movement Party (AUM) in an awkward position: drowning and grasping at straws.
