Early Childhood Education Month in Anguilla ends on Monday, March 31. One of the major highlights was a colourful parade in which all the privately-run pre-schools, and kindergarten classes at the public primary schools, participated.
The memorable parade commenced on Friday, March 21, on the grounds of the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium and wended its way up St Mary’s Street, across the Mahogany Tree corner, down the Albert Lake Drive and back to the Gazebo area at the grounds of the Ruthwill Auditorium. It was clearly the largest such event of any previous Childhood Education Month in Anguilla.
At the outset of the parade Mrs Susan Smith, Education Officer, Primary and Pre Primary Schools, commented as follows:
“It is a combination of colour, splendour and much creativity. The success of this parade is due to the collaborative efforts of the teachers and parents. Therefore, I must commend all of you for the role you played in ensuring that all the children are dressed in costumes.
“I wish to express sincere appreciation to the Ambassadors’ Drum Band, from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which will be providing the music for us.”
Following the parade the children, who were accompanied by their parents, showcased their costumes on the steps of the Gazebo to the cheers of the large assembly of persons.
Another large gathering was the Children’s Concert on Tuesday, March 25, at the Rodney MacArthur Auditorium. Early Childhood Education Month commenced on Tuesday, March 4, with the opening ceremony at the Teachers’ Resource Centre.
