DSC_1238The Anguilla Bridge Association (ABA) last Sunday hosted a tri-island, St. Maarten, St. Martin, Anguilla, bridge tournament at Da Vidas Restaurant. Fourteen (14) Pairs participated in the tournament, Seven (7) from Anguilla, Four (4) from St. Maarten and Three (3) from St. Martin. Thirty Nine (39) Boards were played in a movement called the Howell Movement where each pair played the other Thirteen Pairs. At the end of the day, the First place went to Alan Gumbs and Rufus Bryan from Anguilla with 63.89%. Two pairs tied for Second Place with 60.04% Herve Gouin and Jean-Paul Laval from St. Martin and Carol Baines and Selwyn (Roy) Horsford from Anguilla, and Third Place went to Maru Zeman and Bea Verloop from St. Maarten with 57.26%. Prizes were sponsored by Babrow’s Enterprises and Le Gout de Vin
The Anguilla Bridge Association has a membership comprising Twenty Five members and plays regularly on Tuesday and Thursday Mornings at one or two locations starting at 9:00 a.m. All Bridge Players are invited to participate. Membership fee is US$75.00 per annum and non-member fee is US$5.00 per event.
The ABA recently began a Beginners Game on Monday Evenings at La Vue Small Conference room starting at 7:00 p.m. and is inviting all and sundry to participate. In recent times, the ABA has been targeting those persons who play the game of Whist which is game very similar to the game of Bridge. It also plans to take the game to the Secondary School in the coming months. For more information, you can call the President Mr. Alan Gumbs at 583-6500 or the Treasurer, Mr. Selwyn F.
