Anguilla’s award-winning chefs, in the 2013 Taste of the Caribbean Culinary Competition in Miami, have now formally received their inscribed plates, replacing the replicas temporarily presented at the annual event.
“We received the plates in late December but the culinary team collectively decided to wait until they started practice for 2014 to have the presentation.” so said Mrs Gilda Gumbs-Samuel, Executive Director with the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association, when she presented the attractive gold plates to the chefs at CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa on Tuesday this week.
The 2013 Anguilla gold plate winners were Team Manager: Dean Samuel, Executive Sous Chef, Cap Juluca; Senior Chef Lester Gumbs, CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa; Senior Chef Jonathan Hughes also of CuisinArt; Pastry Chef Lashanda Davis, Viceroy Anguilla; Junior Chef Mtima Daniels, also of Viceroy; and Bartender Lavon Richardson, Altamer Resort.
The 2014 culinary team to represent Anguilla in June comprises the following persons: Team Manager Glendon Carty, Ripples Restaurant and Cap Juluca; Senior Chef Lester Gumbs, CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa; Senior Chef Darren Connor, and Pastry Chef James Matthews, both of Viceroy; Junior Chef Theron Thompson, Straw Hat Restaurant; and Bartender Taffy Hodge, Viceroy.
The AHTA Executive Director, who will be accompanying the culinary team to Miami as usual, expressed gratitude in particular to CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa and Viceroy Anguilla for their continued interest, and being the main supporters of Anguilla’s participation, in the fiercely-competed culinary competition.
Meanwhile, the new team will be engaging in a number of fund-raising activities, over the coming months, which the public is invited to support.
