Mr John Benjamin QC, Counsel for CuisinArt Resort and Spa, has confirmed that construction work has returned to normal at the Reef Hotel by CuisinArt.
This followed the granting of a work permit to the property’s Chief Engineer, Mr Rory Purcell, signed by Chief Minister, Hubert Hughes, who had declined to do so.
On Wednesday, January 22, Mr Benjamin called a press conference at which he told reporters and workers that the owner of the property, Mr Leandro Rizzuto, had decided to cease work on the 80-room Reef Hotel, pending the issuing of the work permit to Mr Purcell. The renewal of a work permit was outstanding since August 2013.
Later the same day, Wednesday, when the temporary shutdown of the construction work took place, the Chief Minister signed Mr Purcell’s work permit. The Chief Engineer went to the Labour Department for his documents, but it was not until Thursday, the following day, that they were processed.
Accordingly, work resumed at the Reef Hotel the next day, Friday, January 24.
