The Department of Education, in keeping with its mandate to meet the needs of all students, is once again providing on the job training for all Special Education Units. This particular training, from 13th – 24th January 2014, is the second phase of professional development sessions conducted by Canadian Consultants, Mrs Yvonne Rafuse and Kym Hume. Mrs. Rafuse and Mrs. Hume who offered their services without payment conducted the first training session in September 2012.

The main aim of the training is to assist the Department in ensuring that all children in the Special Education Units are being planned for, and individualised instruction provided on a daily basis. It is expected that these differentiated programmes would lead to greater success among all students.

The on the job training will allow for Special Education Teachers to observe strategies that can be employed daily, discuss and construct appropriate materials, and re-arrange unit spaces for effective learning. The Special Education Units will also be recipients of donated materials from the Canadian trainers.
