POLICE REPORT ON FIREARM CHARGE AND OTHER OFFENCES

The Anguilla Police reported on Wednesday that Shayne Richardson of Blowing Point was fined $12,000 on a charge of possession of a firearm without a license when he appeared at the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 21.

According to the Police, Richardson pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, he was found guilty when the matter went before the court for trial. The Magistrate ordered him to pay the above fine within six months or to serve six months in prison.

In the regular Police report, for the period January 27-29, ‘nine serious crimes’ were committed. The offences included three thefts at South Hill, East End and Island Harbour. Among the stolen items were car parts, a bicycle and a sum of money.

There were six burglaries at Stoney Ground, Shoal Bay, South Hill, Island Harbour, South Valley and Tackling. The stolen goods included jewellery, an IPhone, foodstuff and a sum of money.

Five persons were arrested during the period as follows: one male to prevent a breach of the peace; one female for assisting an offender; one male on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm; one male for being armed with an offensive weapon; and one male on suspicion of discharging a firearm.

There were eight traffic accidents during the period.
