Recent crimes and accidents were discussed at the Anguilla Police Headquarters on January 15 at 11 am. On Tuesday January 14th 2014, Kerwin Brooks of The Valley appeared before the Magistrate on a charge of possession of a firearm without a license. He pleaded not guilty. The matter went to trial and the charge was dismissed.
Also, a topic of much discussion was the recent Sandy Hill murder that took place on December 21st 2013 resulting in the death of Renario Richardson, who was buried January 11th, and the injury of two others. The Royal Police Force have continued their efforts to capture the persons involved in the shooting. Inspector Emris Rodgers said, “We’re getting information on what actually happened, but what we’re not getting is what we can use as evidence – because without evidence we cannot charge a person. We need evidence in order to make an arrest. We need someone to put the suspect on the scene at the time committing the offense, and so far we haven’t had any person who are willing to come forward and give us that evidence. We haven’t convinced anyone to come forward but we are still trying.”
The Police have an idea of the persons responsible for the shooting but have their hands tied until someone gains the courage to step forward and report on who is responsible for the crime. It is understandable that the people are afraid of being targeted by the shooter, but they must understand that they can do it anonymously – and if they don’t the unnamed shooter can attack again.
A total of seven serious crimes were reported during the time period January 8th to January 15th 2014.There were four theft reports in the areas of Black Garden, Stoney Ground and North Valley, and two burglary reports in the areas of George Hill and Island Harbor. The items stolen included a food processor and car speakers. There was one report of attempted burglary and seven traffic accidents.
A total of six arrests were made as follows: one male for grievous bodily harm; one male to prevent a breach of the peace; one male for indecent assault; one male for discharging a firearm; and two males on default warrants.
