The Comprehensive Learning Centre held its Eleventh Student Awards Ceremony on Saturday January 25, 2014 at the Teachers Resource Centre. Over one hundred students were presented with certificates in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate Examination (CSEC), in Business and QuickBooks studies.
Special awards were given to students who did exceptionally well in their studies. One student acquired all grade ones and others were awarded for their hard work and determination despite illnesses and the desire to quit. The CSEC Examination, offered to students at the end of the secondary education cycle, resulted in a total of sixty-eight graduates.
The CAPE examination is more challenging and is offered to post-secondary candidates entering the world of work and those who wish to further their education at the tertiary level. Of the thirteen CAPE students who graduated, seven acquired grade ones in at least one subject. The majority of CAPE students work in law enforcement on the island and as a result units of Law saw 100% passes along with Caribbean Studies.
The feature address was delivered by Ms Shellya Rogers, a 2013 graduate. She told the students “I am here to reassure you that education is your ticket to a wonderful life. Each award has made a commitment to that quest for higher education, and I commend you.”
The CEO, Principal and Founder of the Comprehensive Learning Centre at North Hill, is Mrs Sandra York Gumbs who over the years has achieved a number of successes for her students in the regional CXC examinations.
