The human spirit was alive and burning at the Alwyn Allison Primary School this past week! November 28 marked the fifth year of the school’s lively business presentation. The twenty-two sixth graders have been studying IT (Information Technology) for a number of years and when asked to think of business ideas that they would like to bring to Anguilla, the results were outstanding.
Using a visual display to project their created websites the students, in groups of three and four, explained their ideas. This year outshone previous years with business ideas like Paradise Falls Hotel presented by future owner Devante Richardson and others. The presentation began with a short skit about how expensive hotels on the island are and the need for more to boost the economy. Paradise Falls would be located in The Valley and comprise with two thousand rooms, world wrestling entertainment, an ice cream parlor, a church, a hospital, a theater and a boutique selling all the clothes you see on television – just to name a few of the amenities.
All the students handed out legitimate business cards, showed posters and models of their ideas, and on one project the audience was asked to answer questions about the presentation in order to receive a brochure.
Another idea that was well received was Roller Coaster City by Juan Hodge and company. It was a roller coaster themed park with different coaster rides ranging from the kid coaster for little children to the funny coaster for everyone. The roller coaster model was especially impressive.
Though the ideas may seem farfetched to some, the students presented them with passion to the visiting A T Hazell Primary School, their classmates, teachers and parents. Being graded on their presentations, the students spoke with confidence, dressed formally for the occasion, tried their best to speak clearly and showed their creativity with energy.
The Alwyn Allison Primary School finds that students tend to talk about Anguilla as being boring with nothing to do, and therefore wanted to do something to change that. This is the fifth year of the presentation and students are realizing that they can make a difference. Chantelle Davis, Deputy Director of Tourism, was present and congratulated the future business leaders by saying: “Everyone did a great job!”
