An Anguillian student awarded a scholarship by Saint James Medical School in Anguilla is the proud recipient of a white coat. It signifies her successful completion of the first portion of studies to becoming a physician.

The student is Tinika Christopher, daughter of Gracita and Antonio Christopher of West End. Her father is a former teacher at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School who served later as a senior staff member at the Department of Agriculture. Her mother is the former Coordinator of Community Nursing with the Health Authority of Anguilla.

“I have been at Saint James Medical School for the last sixteen months,” Ms Christopher told The Anguillian. “It was closer to home than before, when I was away for so long, so I decided to come back. I went to the University of the Virgin Islands for about five years and there I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Psychology.

“I applied for the scholarship which St James Medical School has allotted to an Anguillian student and I was lucky enough to have been selected as one of the medical students.

“I will now be going to the United States to continue my medical studies. I am excited about leaving. It is going to be new for me because I have never lived on the United States mainland. I know it is going to be hard but I am welcoming it.”

Ms Christopher is among 69 students who have been attending Saint James Medical School. They have just completed their first period of training in Anguilla, and are now going to Chicago in white coats to do the second and final part of their studies.
